The Career Fair

I had been to a number of them and been on the other side of the table answering questions and will be the same position if I go to school again. Currently I enjoy the status of being on the side of the table that is in control and determines the future of the people on the other side.

It is a weird sort of power that we wield and it gives me a sense of enjoyment. I know my single ranking on the back of a resume can be a deciding factor of a person getting a job but I feel they need to make an effort to earn that ranking from me. I am not asking them to flatter me, all I am asking is learn about the company and the job. I know some might say just give the kid a job but I cannot afford to give 100 of them a job and the ones that I hire, need to be at least some what decent so that they do some work and the good ones do not have to pick their slack up.

It was just astounding the number of people who came up to the table and had absolutely no idea what the company does. How difficult can it be to google the name of the company and just read  a few lines about it, especially if you are planning to come talk to the representatives. The ones that come to talk at the end of the day are pardoned because this is probably their last option and they do not really care. But the rest of them need to know something and they definitely need to have a resume. Yeah I had some of those too who told me they did not think of carrying a resume. How can you come for a career fair and not think about that?
