Scents
Have you ever noticed, the plethora of different scents, you can just smell in your own house. Well give it a try, I am sure you will get a different one from every corner in your house. I know it is something mundane but it is also something no one gives a thought to.
Now in my house, in just 5 steps I can smell 5 different scents. Lets start with the couch, the leather has a wonderful scent of just leather obviously. The quilt on the couch smells of a nice and flowery laundry detergent. The candles on my coffee table smell of vanilla and the coffee table itself smells of the lime scented wood polish that I use to make it nice and shiny. And then there is me, with the scent of some body spray and obviously just me. There you go, I have five different scents and I have not even moved from my sedentary position on the couch. If I were to venture into the kitchen, the bathroom or the bedroom I am sure I will be greeted with numerous other scents.
This is the indoors but think about the great outdoors. Think about how many wonderful scents you can experience if you take the time to just take a deep breath. Well if you work in a steel mill like me, then refrain from taking a deep breath because all you will get is the odor of sulphur, maybe with some carbon monoxide mixed with it and a lot of black dirt. Otherwise, elsewhere, take a step back and take a deep breath because the great outdoors holds a lot in reserve for you. The smell of wood be it wet or dry, flowers if its the season, wet mud when its time for the first rain, freshly cut grass and a nice barbecue at some one's house. There is so much more out.
Yeah everyone living in congested, polluted areas is going to complain and say, where is the wood and grass. All I can smell is the factory down the street or the garbage outside my building. But there are good scents and you just need to find them. Smell the small little flower pot on your window sill or the car that has just been waxed or the flowers in that corner store down the street. It is not that bad because even amidst the heaps of garbage and nauseating smell, you could find something awesome like in Mumbai when the Western Railway goes from Bandra to Andheri, first you get the smell of the disgusting creek and people on the tracks, then you move over and the air clears out a little for you to breath and then in you smell the wonderful scents of Parle factory. The smell of freshly baked biscuits, that is heaven in every single breath. I know it is not the outdoors but it is what people in the city have and to tell you the truth everyone enjoys that burst of scents from the factory, reminds you of the simple joys in life like a cup of tea and some biscuits. It is all about the sense of smell and all you have to do is stop and breath in, you never know what wonderful scents exist there.
