Daal
Daal or as the rest of the world calls it lentil soup is just not my favourite thing. It tastes funny, gives you gas at times if it is not cooked right and it just makes me feel sick in general. To add to this my mother constantly preaches the values of it and eating a bowl every day. As a kid, I remember the torture of sitting an hour at the dinner table trying to finish that itty bitty little bowl of it. To entice me to drink some more my mum used to add peanuts to it and what I ended up doing is taking all the peanuts and hardly any liquid to fill the bowl. Worked out fine for me till she realized and then I got twice the amount I used to get earlier. Now you would think why am I writing about something so inane like daal? It's because I just came back from dinner at a friends place and her mom had made sambhar and now my clothes and all of me smells of it. I am not complaining because it was home cooked indian food and I hardly get enough of it but there is something about that daal smell, you cannot mask it with perfume and sometimes the smell stays in your clothes for days. It is worse then cigarette smoke. To add to the problem, I am having constant burps and the thing that I can taste is the daal and thats one thing that leaves the worse after taste. If I was given a choice, I would get my proteins from egg or fish because the lentils are my least favorite.
