Kharaab Laage

There have been multiple times when we as Gujarati's use these words

ખરાબ લાગે ..
kharab laage  - feel bad 

Let me start with a couple.

તુ એમના ઘરે નહિ જાય તો ખરાબ લાગસે।
If you don't go to their house, they will feel bad 

તુ આ ખાસે નહિ તો ખરાબ લાગસે।
If you don't eat then , they will feel bad

તુ આવી રીતે વાત કરસે તો ચોકસ ખરાબ લાગસે।
If you talk like this  then, they will feel bad

આવા કપડા પેરસે તો ખરાબ લાગસે।

If you wear clothes like this, they will feel bad. 

The list goes on for quite some pages. Essentially anything you do they will feel bad (ખરાબ લાગસે।- kharab lagse) . Our family and guessing a majority of Gujjus I know, use this as a way to make people do anything they don't want to do. Interesting how the threat of someone feeling bad, not sure why will make you do everything you would otherwise choose not to.
