Water, water everywhere not a drop to drink

900 people with vast knowledge and innumerable contacts to make. Do you talk to all or do you just talk to some and make lifetime friendships. Who knows, there are no guidelines. I for one have absolutely no idea so I seem to be an acquaintance of all but have no friend at all. Standing in a couple of parties last week, I realized I know the names of all these people but I don't know them at all. Also if I walk out right now and disappear, not one of them is going to care. I know it is too early to have a lasting relationship already but it would be nice to have a couple of friends I could call to just go out for dinner or watch movie instead of having to mail the entire listserv. I am sure a lot of people feel that way but I hate that feeling when you are surrounded by people all night, cheering each other, drinking and then walking home alone.
