You are too Humble

Recently called a friend to congratulate him on the birth of his daughter and during the conversation, I happened to mention that I was admitted to Harvard Business School. He congratulated me but also accused me of not making a big deal about it. When I told him I just did not have time to do it and had talked to the people who were in contact with me through the process, he was really offended. He repeatedly kept saying, you should make a big deal about it, you should have called, you should have atleast sent an email. All I said was well did not feel like. I know it was not a nice thing to say but the thruth is I did not care to include all and sundry in my moment of joy. I called the people who mattered and figured that the others would find out eventually. Well I did manage to make one of my friends unhappy and am sure the others will follow but this one used a nice line as saving grace,"you are too humble." Will definitely take that any day over the "you don't maintain relationships very well" or "you are in your own world" which are both relatively true. ...So I am too humble :)
